Campers gathered in pray at a Christian retreat center

Cross Oak Camp & Retreat

Our Story

Cross Oak Camp & Retreat Center in St. Marys, Ohio. has been a place of spiritual refreshment and community since 1947.

Born out of the Church of the Nazarene, it began with a mission: to host more than just events—but to change lives. Over decades, the Christian camp and retreat center has welcomed thousands of youth, churches, school groups, and families, all yearning for time away in a serene, Christ-centered setting.

Today, under the leadership of John and Alexandria Schwieterman, Cross Oak lives out its commitment in every detail: exceptional hospitality, servant leadership, and creating spaces where memories form, relationships deepen, and faith is lived.

Their facility is built for both large and small gatherings—it includes meeting areas that hold up to 350 people, lodging options for over 300, an auditorium for 900, and recreational amenities and activities like an outdoor pool, gym, disc golf, playgrounds, picnic shelter, and even an RV park.

What Makes Us Different

What sets Cross Oak Camp & Retreat Center apart isn’t just its lush woods or its range of lodging and activity options. It’s the culture of service. It’s the belief that retreats are more than breaks—they are gateways to deeper faith, fresh perspective, and closer community.

Whether a small group of twenty or a 300+ gathering, every group receives care, flexibility, and spiritual intentionality. It’s where preparation meets peace. It’s where memories become more than moments—they become stepping stones toward eternal impact.

“Our prayer is that Cross Oak Camp becomes a beloved haven where groups come together to worship, grow in faith, share in joy and laughter, and experience the life-changing power of God’s presence. May this be a place where hearts are renewed, friendships are strengthened, and His name is glorified in all that we do.”
